Events
To make sure you learn about events of interest to the food community, please sign up for our Email Newsletter (at the top of the right sidebar), subscribe to our Blog, and follow us on Facebook! All of our events are intended to convey both education about and celebration of what “good, clean, and fair” means in practice in our local food system.
Slow Food Seacoast hosts events monthly, except in December. Potluck “Sunday Dinners” are held at different locations around the region; they are always open to the public and free! Each Sunday Dinner features a theme to tie the meal to a short presentation on a relevant topic. For 2011, potlucks are scheduled for the first Sundays of February, May, June, August, and October.
Special events for March, April, July, September, and November 2011 will be publicized as soon as dates and times are confirmed. Note: Special events may require an entrance fee, announced in advance.

Upcoming Events
- On Sunday, July 24, the Slow Food Seacoast 5th Annual Down-on-the-Farm Picnic will be held at Touching Earth Farm in Kittery, Maine! Join us for a relaxing day on a young suburban farm within an old landscape. Help us celebrate diversity—of not only people but also land use, methods, ventures, species, and flavors. Click on the image below to see our flyer, and check back soon for a full event page.
- Momentum created by the RAFT Grow-Out and Heirloom Harvest Barn Dinner events of the past 2 years will live on (and grow) through the Seacoast’s very own Heirloom Harvest Project! Headed by Black Trumpet Bistro’s Evan Mallett, this collaboration of local chefs, farmers and other food producers, Seacoast Eat Local, and Slow Food Seacoast is planning some delicious local events for the summer and fall. What’s more, all proceeds will stay in our community! For now, follow the Heirloom Harvest Project on Facebook … and stay tuned for event announcements.
Past Events
- In May, the Slow Food Seacoast Sunday Dinner was held at Blue Moon Evolution in Exeter. Thanks, Blue Moon!
- The Localvore Brunch & Heirloom Seed Plant-In on April 3 was delicious and and fun! Click here for the event wrap-up.
- On March 10, Slow Food Seacoast hosted a “Taste of Place” Social to allow local delegates to the 2010 Terra Madre Conference to share their experiences. Click here to view event photos on Flickr.
- At our February 6 Sunday Dinner, Sriram Madhusoodanan of Corporate Accountability International (CAI) spoke about CAI’s Value [the] Meal campaign and its call on fast-food giant McDonald’s to Retire Ronald [McDonald] once and for all. Attendees brought “slow” versions of fast food dishes, like fizzy fermented tea and sauerkraut (instead of soda and soupy coleslaw), oven-baked sweet potato sticks (instead of uniformly greasy fries), and a birthday “Twinkie” made from sponge cake and whipped cream that was real and local!
- At the Slow Food Seacoast Annual Meeting on January 9, board members set the calendar for 2011. Each month will feature at least one Slow Food Seacoast event, which most months will be a “Sunday Dinner” Potluck with a short presentation from a speaker.
- The Slow Food Seacoast 50-Mile Thanksgiving Celebration was a lot of fun on November 6! Click here to view event photos on our Flickr page.
- Chef’s Collaborative, Seacoast Eat Local, and Slow Food Seacoast partnered again this year to hold the 2010 Heirloom Harvest Barn Dinner, part of the Renewing America’s Food Traditions (RAFT) Heirloom Grow-Out project, on September 19. This celebration of biodiversity, community, farmer–chef connections, and great locally grown heirloom varieties was hosted by the Meadow’s Mirth farmers in the barn at Berry Hill Farm in Stratham, NH.
