About Us

Slow Food Seacoast is the local chapter of the worldwide Slow Food movement.

Together we work toward a healthier food system, slowing down the pace of life by focusing on the pleasures of good, clean, and fair food.

The Seacoast chapter got its start in 2006, beginning as a small group of founding members. From that seed grew an active   group of enthusiastic volunteers and supporters, including farmers, chefs, gardeners, home cooks, and people who just love good food.  Thanks to their hard work, in just three short years Slow Food Seacoast has grown to more than 80 dues-paying members of Slow Food USA, hundreds of attendees at potlucks and annual events, and nearly 1000 mailing list members. We think this is a testament to the power of the emerging local food movement and the strong community culture in Seacoast New Hampshire and Southern Maine.

Together, the volunteers of Slow Food Seacoast host events that focus on education and celebration.   We seek to learn how food is produced  and prepared by skilled farmers, artisans, and chefs, what we can do to support farmers and their land, and how to appreciate fresh, seasonal, and local food. With our celebrations, we seek to bring together people of all ages and backgrounds to share the community table. We host monthly potlucks which are open to all at no charge, and events small and large such as our summer Farm Picnic, autumn 100-Mile Thanksgiving feast, and talks and tours throughout the year. We proudly partner with Seacoast Eat Local on Seacoast Harvest: A Local Food Guide and with many businesses and nonprofits around the region (see Community for a list of partners and contributors). All are welcome to our events. We hope to see you soon!
